Headline

Hail,
the King is dead.
The newspaper read,
he died in bed.

The Jesuit said,
everyone bow their heads.
The King is dead.

Key Largo State of Mind

On the sea,
floating upon water.
On this island upon islands,
which are not really islands,
but keys.
Strips of land,
like crakers in tomato soup
or broken glass on the sidewalk
or sugar on a unfinished jig-saw puzzle.
On this bar floor
which we drink the day away.
